FFTCG Blissful Eternity
Sneak Peek!
The FFTCG, enjoyed by players all over the world, is getting a new booster pack titled “Blissful Eternity” on Friday, August 7!
We’ve decided to give you all a first look at four of the new cards here on the FF Portal Site.
We also have a message to share from FFTCG producer, Tarou Kageyama as well as the illustrators who handled the cards’ art.
Hello everyone. This is Tarou Kageyama, producer of FFTCG. With the release of a new booster pack on the horizon, it’s time to preview a selection of upcoming cards and their artwork.
I have four cards to show you – two each from Yasushi Hasegawa and Ryoma Ito – and all of them will feature in the Blissful Eternity booster pack, which is slated for release on Friday, August 7. It’s been four months of anticipation since the last preview, so let’s get into it.
First up are two of the Dawn Warriors from FINAL FANTASY V, [29-029R] Xezat and [29-082R] Kelger, with artwork from the hand of Yasushi Hasegawa.
These gorgeous illustrations depict two honorable, practiced warriors set against detailed backdrops that heighten their storytelling charm. In card form, they are truly stunning.
Both cards are also interesting from a gameplay perspective. [29-029R] Xezat is a cost 3, 8000 power Ice-elemental Forward, making it a balanced option for that cost and size. It’s reliable in either attack or defense, especially when compared to other ice cards.
It also comes with two abilities. One is a field ability that’s active whenever [29-029R] Xezat is on the field and forces an opponent’s Summons and abilities to target [29-029R] Xezat if possible. So, even if an opponent wants to take down other Forwards, they’ll have to go through [29-029R] Xezat first.
For its action ability, [29-029R] Xezat allows you to pay two Crystals to move it to the Break Zone. From there, it can then remove one Forward that your opponent controls. This means you can take a Forward out of the game even if your opponent’s Summons or abilities have broken [29-029R] Xezat.
[29-082R] Kelger, on the other hand, is a cost 3, 6000 power Forward – but that casting cost drops to 0 if another Dawn Warrior or Bartz is already on the field. When [29-082R] Kelger itself enters the field, you gain one Crystal plus one more for each Dawn Warrior that’s already out there. As you may have realized, when [29-082R] Kelger and [29-029R] Xezat are used in the same deck it makes for a powerful synergy that’s great fun to play.

Xezat
For this card, I imagined Xezat as the defiant leader of his great fleet. I wanted to capture the sense of authority that a king and self-proclaimed swordsman such as he would command, as well as his grandiose personality, which is how this composition came to be.
Kelger
You can’t speak about Kelger, one of the four Dawn Warriors, without also mentioning his special “Lupine Attack,” and it’s that moment which inspired this piece. I wanted to capture an instant in time of Kelger’s opponent going for the attack, only to slice air as Kelger's blade suddenly lands a singular, devastating blow – all in one image!
Next, I have two cards to show you from illustrator Ryoma Ito. Both feature characters from FINAL FANTASY TACTICS ADVANCE 2: Grimoire of the Rift, namely [29-057L] Luso, the main protagonist, and [29-040H] Adelle, who ends up accompanying him amid unusual circumstances. First, let’s take a look at the artwork.
Both illustrations overflow with a distinctive charm and bright style that makes them right at home displayed together in a collection. They’re both the same Element as well, so I’d be inclined to use them together in the same deck... But I think we need to look a little more closely to see if that’s a wise move. Let’s check out [29-040H] Adelle first.
[29-040H] Adelle is a highly aggressive card to play. At a cost of 2 and 5000 power it’s a comparative lightweight, but the Haste ability means it can quickly launch into an attack. Its auto-ability gives you the option to make [29-040H] Adelle active if you discard a card from your hand, enabling you to attack twice in succession. Furthermore, if you do discard a card, you can nominate one Category FFTA2 Forward to receive a +2000 power boost until the end of that turn.
Essentially, just by performing a simple attack, [29-040H] Adelle is able to power up herself or another Category FFTA2 Forward of your choosing!
And on that note, [29-057L] Luso, being a Category FFTA2 Forward, seems like a prime candidate to receive the benefits of [29-040H] Adelle’s auto-ability.
At a cost of 8, [29-057L] Luso is certainly on the costlier end of FFTCG cards, which may raise a few eyebrows when compared to its modest 5000 power. Cards of a similar set-up are usually guaranteed to come with some powerful abilities, so let’s see if that’s the case here too.
True to form, [29-057L] Luso has not one but two auto-abilities; one that triggers when the card enters the field, the other at the start of your attack phase. When [29-057L] Luso first enters, you can search your deck for up to three Category FFTA2 Forwards and place them all directly onto the field – provided they have a combined cost of 6 or less. It’s not an ability to be taken lightly.
Then, when you begin your attack phase, [29-057L] Luso’s other auto-ability lets you apply Haste to one Category FFTA2 Forward, as long as the Characters you control have four different Elements between them. This doesn’t seem too big of an ask, given that his other auto-ability lets you place up to three Forwards onto the field.
That said, if you use his other auto-ability to bring into play cards that already have Haste, or cards with abilities that trigger when they enter the field, you might not need to pay much heed to [29-057L] Luso’s attack phase ability anyway. And when it comes to synergy, plenty of cards spring to mind, with [29-040H] Adelle being just one option among many. I recommend you consult the card browser to see what great FFTA2-themed decks are possible.
And with that, I’ll be back for another preview in four months’ time!

Adelle
This time around, I had the opportunity to draw Adelle from FFTA2, who’s one of my personal favorite characters. For Dreamlike Oceans, the 28th FFTCG booster pack, I did the artwork for Marche and Ritz from FFTA2’s predecessor FINAL FANTASY TACTICS ADVANCE. I had both those characters standing on top of boulders too, so there’s a bit of a theme going here. I’d be thrilled if anyone picks up these cards and decides to include them in a deck!
Luso
Luso is the lively protagonist of FFTA2, and I stuck with the same stylistic choices here as I did for Adelle, Marche, and Ritz. I really hope everyone enjoys it.
FFTCG is a one-on-one tactical card game featuring FINAL FANTASY characters and summons. Not only is there fun in collecting cards featuring familiar faces, the main draw of the game is the simplicity of the rules combined with the complexity of the gameplay. The art drawn for the game by famed illustrators is also a popular aspect of FFTCG!
